Rethinking International Finance

Guest Editor Usha R. Mittoo

Special Issue of the International Journal of Managerial Finance

The recent financial crisis has highlighted the need to reconsider the interrelationship of global financial markets and how lessons that are learned from one market can be applied in other markets. This special issue is devoted to re-examining issues within these markets that have implications for how they will operate in the future and their impact on financial management decision making.

Topics:

Potential topics of particular interest include those linked to the financial crisis and/or re-examination of financial issues in the post-crisis business environment. We welcome submissions on any topic in international finance related to the overall theme but preference will be given to the papers that highlight implications for academics, business managers or policy makers. We encourage studies with innovative approaches that examine these issues in different market settings.

Topics of interest to this special issue include but are not limited to:

  • Identifying changes due to the financial crises in international financial markets, cross-country regulation, banking systems, or foreign exchange markets.
  • Understanding corporate finance decisions relating to changes in capital structure, investment, corporate governance, executive compensation, and payout policy in the wake of the global crisis.
  • The impact of liquidity crisis on global markets, credit risk, risk management, and corporate financing and investment decisions.
  • The effects of crisis across developed and emerging economies and lessons learned.
  • The role of accounting standards and practises, rating agencies, market regulation, and corporate governance in the GFC.
  • The call/need for a new international financial architecture.
  • Re-examining the role of hedge funds, private equity and other entities in quasi-regulated businesses.
  • Relevance of the traditional risk and asset pricing models, Efficient Market Hypothesis, market anomalies, and behavioural finance in the post-GFC era.
